Browsing and Search

Find past journal entries quickly with date groupings, layout options, and easy scrolling.

Overview

Every time you write in Onsen, your thoughts are saved in one place. The Journal tab keeps everything organized by date so you can look back at what you wrote last week, last month, or whenever you need to revisit something.

Finding Your Entries

Tap the Journal tab to see all your entries, starting with the most recent. Entries are grouped under time-based headers — Today, Yesterday, Last week, Last month, and so on — so you can quickly scroll to a particular period.

List and Grid Views

In the top-right corner of the Journal screen you'll find two buttons: the filter (covered below) and a layout toggle that switches between two views:

  • List view — full-width cards stacked vertically, great for reading text previews
  • Grid view — a two-column layout that works well when your entries have images

Onsen remembers your preference, so you only need to set it once.

Filtering by Origin

Next to the layout toggle, the filter narrows your journal to All entries, My entries, Shared with me, or Shared by me — handy once friends start sharing entries with you, or once you start sharing yours. While a filter is active you can't miss it: the filter icon turns blue with a small dot, and a pill under the Journal title shows which view you're in — tap the pill to change it, or its to see everything again. Like the layout, your filter choice is remembered.

Managing Entries from the List

Long-press any entry card to open a quick menu with View, Rename, Share, and Delete options — no need to open the entry first. If you delete by mistake, an Undo notification appears at the bottom of the screen. See Managing Entries for more.

Tips

  • Use grid view for visual browsing — if you have entries with AI-generated artwork, grid view makes them easy to spot.
  • Revisit older entries — scrolling back through past writing can surface insights you might have missed at the time.
