Happiness Tracker
Take the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire to measure your general happiness.

Overview
Happiness Tracker is a self-assessment experience based on the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ), a validated psychological instrument developed by Peter Hills and Michael Argyle at Oxford Brookes University. It measures how happy and satisfied you feel in life across a range of dimensions, from mental alertness to finding beauty in the world. Onsen guides you through eight questions, calculates your score, and turns the conversation into a personal journal entry.

How It Works
Step 1 — Quiz
The experience opens with your AI guide introducing the OHQ questionnaire: its origins, what it measures, and what to expect from the eight questions. Your recent journal entries are used to personalize this introduction. Tap Continue when you are ready to begin.
The guide then presents all eight OHQ-8 statements as a survey, displayed in shuffled order. For each statement you select a response on a five-point scale from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree.
The statements cover aspects of life satisfaction, positive outlook, mental engagement, and memory of the past. Three of the eight statements are phrased negatively and scored in reverse.
Once you submit your responses, the guide shares your score on a 1–5 scale and provides a personalized interpretation. It highlights which areas reflect high happiness and which suggest areas to work on, drawing on themes from your recent journal entries. Scores above 4 indicate high happiness; scores below 3.5 indicate low happiness. Tap Continue to Journal to proceed.
Step 2 — Journal
The guide automatically drafts a first-person journal entry based on your quiz conversation. It captures the key themes and your personal reflections in your own tone and style, formatted with markdown and emoji. You can edit the draft before saving. Tap Add to Journal to save the entry to your journal.
Tips
- Be honest with yourself — answer based on how you have actually been feeling, not how you wish you felt.
- Read carefully — some statements are phrased negatively; take a moment before selecting your response.
- Track regularly — taking this monthly helps you see meaningful trends and understand what influences your happiness.
- Discuss your results — use your score as a starting point to explore what surprised you or what you want to work on in your next Onsen experience.
