Onsen is a small, unfunded team building an AI companion for mental wellbeing. We're preparing for our first fundraise and looking for people who want to be part of something meaningful from the ground up.
Where we are
We launched in late 2024 and have grown to over 15,000 users with no funding and no paid marketing. The product is live on iOS and Android, users love it, and we're ready to scale.
Right now we can't offer salaries, but we can offer the chance to shape a product that genuinely helps people, from day one. If we're the right fit, that changes when funding comes in.

The user always wins
Every trade-off gets settled the same way. The best experience for the person using Onsen beats the option that is easier for us.
What we look for: You speak up for the user when it would be simpler not to. You notice when a decision quietly takes something away from them.
Empathy over ego
People come to Onsen at difficult moments, often about things they have told no one else. Every decision is judged on whether it helps them, not on how it makes us look.
What we look for: You keep the user in mind while you work. You drop your own idea when someone has a better one.
Privacy is non-negotiable
People trust us with what they tell nobody else. We do not sell data. The safe option is the default.
What we look for: You treat other people’s data like your own, and say something even when it slows a release.
AI-first, always
AI is in Onsen’s DNA, not bolted on. The product, the processes, the operations, all of it.
What we look for: You use AI deeply in your own domain, whether that is engineering, marketing, design, analysis or operations. It is part of how you work every day, not something you tried once.
Ship fast, learn faster
We move fast. Small releases, constantly. Being wrong this week beats being right next quarter.
What we look for: You would rather build it and show us than book a meeting about it. If you are used to quarterly roadmaps and three rounds of sign-off, this will not suit you.
Small team, big impact
A handful of people building for millions. Everyone’s work is visible in the product.
What we look for: You wear several hats and are expert in more than one domain, and you like to stretch. There is nobody to hand the other parts to.
